Your ability to adapt in this world of physical distancing and lockdown is critical, particularly where outside events prevent normal business activity. To make things more complex, the Victorian OHS Act changed on July 1 2021.
There is the potential for massively increased fines and jail time up to 20 years for those breaching their duties for offences such as Industrial Manslaughter. The new laws have a lower need for culpability with negligent rather than reckless behaviour now being the minimum standard of behaviour for prosecutions to be successful.
It is critical that HSRs are properly trained. Organisations need to ensure all the tools at your disposal are in place; and this includes well trained HSR. HSR, to be most effective for their organisation need an up to date understanding of changes to the Act, and the ways in which they can contribute to consultation as legislated.
Smart businesses are also now ensuring their HSR of long standing attend the updated 5-day HSR courses. Many have not received training or information for several years and forgotten much of what you need them to know.
